How to ward off a seizure
Charlie woke Mark up this morning at 4:45 a.m. He nudged him while he was sleeping and then ran to the front door. Mark got up and let him out. Charlie then proceeded to eat a bunch of grass, but did not get sick. He came back in and then puked on the carpet. Then Mark said his eyes started to cross and he started to tremble and Mark knew he was going into a seizure. So he yelled at him! "Charlie!! Hey! Who wants to go for a ride in the PICK UP!!!" And Charlie came out of it!!!! That's his favorite place in the world.

Mark decided that since I slept through most of this, I needed to get up bright and early as well and clean up the puke. He used the excuse that he still wasn't feeling well, but I don't buy it.

Anyway, Charlie acted a little bit weird afterwards. So we think it may have been a petite mal instead of a grand mal. I'm just amazed Mark's yelling snapped him out of it.

I'm impressed that Mark had the presence of mind to even think of shouting that. Good job Mark...you're more than just another pretty face in the crowd.

I wonder if it's the same premise as having someone repeatedly yell your name as you're about to sneeze. It'll stop your sneeze every time!! My husband used to do that to me all the time...I could have killed him. There's nothing like a good sneeze when you need one.

Hope Charlie doesn't have any more events!!

Way to go Mark for shaking him out of it. Give Charlie some extra loving. I hope he got to go for a car ride after that, too.

Re: How to ward off a seizure
Oh he got some loving. And a long walk outside.

It's kinda weird because this has happened before, to a lessor degree. Charlie will get this odd look in his eyes and you can tell something is not right. Any time we've noticed it we distract him by yelling out something that will get his attention. And we make it a question. Like he has to stop and respond to it. Do you want a treat? Do you want to go for a ride? And you can actually see him trying to process it, stopping whatever it is trying to short circuit his brain. Then we keep him occupied with something - playing with a toy or going for a walk.

Not sure if we're completely out of our minds or not, but at least there hasn't been any "real" seizures for a while now.

Thanks for sharing this, I'm going to tell our son and DIL, their Lab had a seizure a few weeks ago, scared the crap out of them. I'd forgotton about Charlie having a seizure.
