Cricket is hurt, need advice She is crying out in pain when she jumps up into the jeep or onto my bed. She is going up the stairs really carefully.
However, she doesn't cry when getting down from stuff and is fine doing down the stairs. She isn't limping and lets me flex and stretch her out. She isn't sore anywhere (she is letting me poke and prod her) She was out on the frozen pond on Sunday... slipping and sliding I think maybe she pulled a muscle but how do I know for sure? help please |

Re: Cricket is hurt, need advice Sounds like she's sore in the back end. She cries when putting pressure on her back end to jump up but the front is OK to take the shock of getting down. I wouldn't take any chances and if she isn't better tomorrow, I'd take her to the vet. It could be her knee. At the very least, if it's muscle soreness, they can give her some Tramadol or Gabapentin to ease her discomfort.
Keep us posted.

Re: Cricket is hurt, need advice Sorry to hear Cricket is injured in some way. If it were me, I would have her to the vet. I am guessing that they would want to do x-rays and if nothing is obvious, I would guess some pain meds and crate rest. If you have poked and proded with no reaction, I would worry it is a ligament as opposed to a muscle. Is any area swollen? I have probably ventured too much in my guesses, so don't take great stock in them.
Please keep up posted.

Re: Cricket is hurt, need advice I started her on rimadyl and tramadol yesterday. Thanks to Murphy both are readily available. Although I talked to a friend last night who is a vet tech and she is sending me some Durramaxx (?) to give her instead of rimadyl She was racing around the yard this afternoon trying to get Smurf to chase her... so I am guessing she isn't as hurt as I think she is/was. made her jump in the car today, she really didn't want to. I think she is thinking it is going to hurt so she is trying to take the (easy for her) way out and having me pick her up. She jumped in the suburban first this afternoon and then the jeep to come home. begrudgingly but did it without crying. Not sure if the pains meds are the reason it doesn't hurt or she is on the mend... either way it was good to NOT hear her cry. gonna give her a few days before I call the vet, pretty sure they would tell me to do what I am already doing. I'll keep you updated |

Re: Cricket is hurt, need advice Glad to hear she's feeling better. Charlie has been hopping around on three legs since yesterday. Cut his right paw pretty good on something yesterday morning, but won't let us near it to get a closer look. He seems better tonight though.

Gregge, just make sure and check with the vet about giving Duramax right after the Rymadal. There are some of those drugs that have to be completely out of the system before starting the other one and I can't remember which ones don't go with Rymadal.

Re: Cricket is hurt, need advice Is there any way you can prevent Cricket from having to jump in and out of cars for a couple of weeks? I don't know if I would let her run all out either. I would restrict her activity if possible.
I hope Cricket continues to improve.
