Nervous at the dog park. Hallie and I went to the usual dog park this morning and it was very quiet. Usually there are a bunch of people and dogs but this morning it was just Hallie and I along with Runner and his Dad. Runner was acting oddly. Being very skittish and clinging to his Dad's side. Not like Runner at all. He's usually all over the park.
Anyway, Runner's Dad wondered what the problem was and took a good close look at the woodlot at the end of the park. A pack of 5 coyotes, just sitting there watching. Very eerie. They are scary animals. There is a 6 foot chain link fence separating the woods from the park but I think that they could scale that easily enough. Hallie and I stayed at the front of the park and played ball. I was about 20 feet from the gate and my car and the coyotes would have to travel the length of a couple of football fields to get near us. My neck has a kink in it from constantly swiveling to the right to keep watch. Not our most relaxing trip to the park.

Re: Nervous at the dog park. Yikes! That is scary. I know coyotes will often "play" with a dog to lure it back to the pack. How creepy to know they were sitting there watching, even with you and another person around.

Re: Nervous at the dog park. Runner and his Dad left very shortly after seeing them. I was hooking on Hallie's leash when a bunch of the other regulars arrived. Once there were a bunch of people and dogs there, I relaxed to a certain degree but still.....too close for me. There was one yipping the other morning and we could see him but one is a LOT different than a whole freaking pack!!

Re: Nervous at the dog park. That is scary, I would have cut my trip short too.

Re: Nervous at the dog park. I would have been out of there. A co-worker of mine said that last week a neighbor of his was walking her two little dogs on leash around the block. A coyote came out of nowhere and grabbed one of the little dogs, leash and all, and ran off. He also said that there are no cats running around anymore. Since the recent cold weather, I can only guess the coyote was really hungry to attempt such. I haven't had any exposure to them, but for stories, I would prefer no encounters.
