Soooooooo.... I have a little secret that I've had for about a week now and I'm dying to tell someone! Who better than you all!

Okay so Jim and I have been together for 5 years now, we dated on/off for 3 yrs before that and of course we have Ben and we own our house together. Lately it really has bothered me that I don't have the same last name as my son. I want to get married, I want to us officially - legally - be a family. I know that money's a factor, Jim cannot afford to buy me the ring he really feels like I deserve or the ring he wants me to have.... so that's all that's stopped us from getting engaged. Yet it is income tax time..... so money isn't a huge factor right now.

But... last Sunday we went ring shopping, for like 3 hours I tried on every engagement ring you could imagine. I found not a one that I loved enough to wear the rest of my life. So I told him some styles I liked and he told me a very large debit would be coming out of the bank account (we have a joint account) and if a package arrives within the week I should leave it alone. My engagement ring will be here this week! YAY!

I think he ended up ordering it from Zales' web site.... I spied, couldn't help myself!

None of our family knows we were looking at rings or anything.... I would of loved a big suprise but with a joint back account, it's hard for Jim to spend a large amount of money without me knowing about it. But I am clueless as to what ring style or size or anything he got me! So it will be a somewhat suprise to me! So by the end of the week I should be engaged! YAY! I'm so very excited!

I just had to share my excitement! Cuz man it's about time!

The Sunday before last we spent 3 hours at every single jewelry store in town looking at rings. Then the week he spent showing me rings online asking if I liked them... I told them that I will like whatever he ges me, I gave him a certain style I like, and the style I absolutely hate.... so I made it easy!

Unfortunately, Jim is not a big romantic, so there's not a bunch of romantic details, sorry to disappoint....

Short story is I knew the ring was coming... I was very informed and involved in picking out my ring of course. Got it back from being sized last night. And there wasn't a big romantic, down on one knee, proposal. It was more like, he gave me the ring and said that he knows how important it is to me that we get married and although he loves me the same, married or not, that he wants me to be happy... and if I'm happy, then he's happy. Nothing traditional about my Jim, that's for sure,

But he did suprise me and he asked my dad's permission to marry me. I didn't know he did until after the fact, but that was really nice of him to respect my dad enough to ask. :)

And anyways... I cannot get the ring to photograph well. So this is a pic I found online of almost the same ring, doesn't do it justic at all... but my ring is white gold, 1 carat total weight (center stone is 0.3 carats - just my size - there's 8 diamonds on each side of the center stone, those are 0.7 carats total), and super sparkly...

It's beautiful! Sounds like Jim has been hanging around Mark. Not a lot of romance, but he's respectful and wants to make you happy.

I think that's another way to say "practical".

And I agree with Julie. Vegas.

Vegas would be awesome! But all our family would come and who would watch Champ? So it might not be in the cards! I'd like to wait until next summer when Ben's a lil bigger and have him be our ring bearer
