What a going over....
Cedar got seen at the rehab clinic this evening. He had some chiropractic adjustments, some cold laser treatment, some stretching, pressure points and a pedicure. Leslie changed the shape of his nails to improve his posture which will in turn make him use different muscles. Who knew? Anyway, he is signed up for a few sessions, heat pads, more chiro and laser as well as under water treadmill therapy. Then he'll progress to the swimming pool.

I am SO happy I took him to this rehab clinic. Leslie is sure we can get him good and comfortable again, without meds. He's sore tonight so I doped him up when we got home but in addition to the soreness....he is absolutely exhausted!!! He was out like a light for the 45 minute car ride home. Not a peep out of him. Before the soreness moved in, he was actually moving better than when we arrived!!

Our next visit is on Thursday morning. He goes once a week after that.

Here's a link to the place I took him. Not your usual vet clinic....no sick dogs, only sore ones.

I wish it were a little closer but I'm thankful that we have a facility like this within easy driving distance.

While I love my vet and do trust him, after talking to Leslie last night I realized that he is not a sports medicine guy. Drugs are all fine and good and Cedar will continue to receive his Tramadol as needed but if we can do something physical to help him along, I am SO all over it!!

Will keep you posted as to his progress.

Re: What a going over....
I love that you are exploring this route. Since Kiley had her back pain episode in December, we have learned a lot or at least enough to make better educated decisions. The neurologist suggested surgery within the week. Thank goodness we had people around us suggesting another opinion of well-respected vet rehab centers. We took Kiley to a vet that does much the same as this place sounds like. We do surgeries or give drugs when you can get the dog relief in non-invasive more natural methods.

We consider Kiley and Emmie performance dogs now and see these preventative measures as investments. They get massages and adjustments from time to time.

Thank you for posting this information and I hope you continue to give us updates.

I'm thinking that today he's wishing I never had the bright idea to take him to rehab. She made him move muscles and joints last night in a way he hasn't for a looooong time. He's one sore puppy today. Of course, she warned me that this would be the case. Poor boy. He's shell shocked. I swear that every time he looks at me his eyes say " WHY????" Imagine those pitiful brown eyes.

I told him to man up and gave him another pain pill.

I think one of the things i was most impressed with was the ethic that Leslie showed. Cindy was also there for an assessment and I had mentioned up front that with her, we were considering therapy as a preventative measure. Leslie had two for sure new patients and all she had to do was say so. Instead, she told us that there wasn't really anything wrong enough with Cindy to warrant therapy but that she could come with Cedar and use the pool for free while he had his therapy session. She could have soaked me but didn't. Nice that there are still honest people in the world.
