Department of Transportation Compliance Audit
My husband is a self-employed owner-operator truck driver. I always thought we had everything set up legally. About two weeks ago we were notified that we were to be audited by the Department of Transportation. I spent the last two weekends putting my paperwork in order, got him enrolled in a drug testing consortium, had him complete an employment application (yes, he had to apply to work for himself ), got copies of various documents from multiple sources and put it all together in a reasonable fashion.

Today was the big day and yippee!!! We passed.

Now I can continue working on the half bathroom that I tore apart a couple of weeks ago.

I bet that is a huge relief for the both of you.

at applying to work for himself, good thing he had a good "boss" to hire him. Can you imagine if he didn't get hired?

I also thought it was funny that he could have denied himself a job...yeah like that's going to happen....buy a big truck and then refuse to hire himself.

We also had to have a written policy regarding the failure of a drug test....just wanted to put short and sweet....."Fail a drug test....he gets a divorce"...but I went out on the net and stole some other company's policy and changed the name on it instead.

The rules said we were supposed to have made inquiries to his previous 3 employers.....but we were excused from that one.

Our tax dollars at work!

Just glad I can now look forward to the weekend trip to Houston!

Been there, done that. It's not pretty. Mark also got audited by both the federal and state departments a few years ago. He's very happy he doesn't have to deal with that anymore.
